Step 1: Select the location to add a PDF

Click on ‘Insert’, which is right next to the Home tab. 

Next, click on the ‘Object’ option located on the left side of the window. 

A drop-down will appear as shown in the image below. Select ‘Object’.

Step 3: Insert the PDF

On clicking ‘Object’, a new window will open. Select ‘Create from file’ and click on ‘Browse’. 

Navigate to the PDF that you want to add to the Word document, select it, and click on ‘Insert’. The PDF file will be inserted into your word document.

How To Insert PDF Document Into MS Word As Linked Object?

Inserting a PDF document into MS Word as a linked object means you’ll be linking to an external PDF document.

 This means you’ll need your PDF hosted somewhere on the cloud, for instance, on Google Drive, and that you’ll have to ensure that your document and the PDF have a reliable connection if you share the Word document with someone else. 

In order to insert a PDF document into MS Word as a linked object, you’ll need to follow the same 3 steps covered above.

Then, once the Object window is open, go to ‘Create from file’, and click on ‘Browse’. 

Navigate to the PDF file that you want to insert. After selecting the file, check the ‘Display as icon’ box and click on ‘Insert’.

Your PDF will be inserted as shown in the following image. On double-clicking the icon, the inserted PDF will open in your chosen PDF viewer. 

How To Insert PDF Document Into MS Word As An Image? (PNG or JPG)

There are ways in which you can add a PDF into your Word file as an image, whether it’s a PNG, JPG, or some other file format.

This only applies when you require a certain image from a PDF, and embedding the whole file into word doesn’t make sense. The inserted PDF image will be static, which means you won’t be able to click on it or expand it. 

In order to insert a PDF as an image in word, you’ll have to first convert it to an image file. 

If your PDF has multiple pages, then each one of the pages will be converted to a separated image file. 

Here’s how you can insert a PDF document into MS word as an image:

Step 1: Convert PDF to JPG

Step 2: Select the location to add PDF as an image

Open your desired Word document and place the cursor on the location where you want to add PDF as an image. 

Step 3: Insert PDF as an image

Click on ‘Insert’, and then ‘Pictures’.

A dropdown will appear, as shown below, select ‘This Device..’.

Then, navigate to the location where you have saved the converted PDF file. Select the images, and click on ‘Insert’. The PDF will be inserted as an image in the location where you’ve placed your cursor.

There are only two steps involved in converting a PDF into an editable word document using MS Word.

3. A new window will open. Navigate to the PDF file that you want to convert to Word, and click ‘Open’. You will receive the following message, click ‘Ok’. 

4. The PDF file will be inserted as free text.

How to convert PDF to Word format online?

You can use Adobe Acrobat’s online PDF to Word tool to convert a PDF file to a word document to edit it. Here’s how:

1. Open the Adobe Acrobat’s PDF to Word converter by clicking here. 
2. Click on ‘Select a File’.

3. A window will pop open. Navigate to the PDF that you want to convert to Word, and click ‘Open’. 

4. Once the file is uploaded, the tool will convert it to word. After conversion, it will tell you the file is ready. Click on ‘Download’ to download the converted file.

How To Convert PDF To Google Doc To Edit Inside Content?

In order to convert PDF to Google Docs, you’ll have to upload it to google docs. 

Here’s how you can upload a PDF to Google Docs and make it editable:

Step 1: Open Google Docs

Sign in to your Gmail account if you aren’t signed in on the browser.

Step 2: Open a blank Google Docs document

Click on ‘Blank’ to open a blank document.  

Step 3: Upload your PDF file to Google Docs

Once a new document has opened, click on ‘File’, and then ‘Open’. 

The ‘Open a File’ navigation window will open. Click on Upload, and then ‘Select a file from your device’. 

A new window will open asking you to navigate to the file that you want to upload. Select the desired PDF and click ‘Open’. 

The file will open as a PDF as shown below.

Step 4: Convert PDF to an editable document

Hover over the top to make the ‘Open with’ option visible. On clicking on it, a drop-down will appear. Click on ‘Google Docs’ to convert the file to an editable format.

Most of the editing options on Adobe Acrobat aren’t available for free. 

You need the paid Adobe Acrobat Pro DC to achieve your target of editing PDFs.
